Volunteer on the Victim Crime Compensation Board
The District Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications for a volunteer member of the 21st Judicial District's Crime Victim Compensation (CVC) Board. Serving the CVC Board is a great way to give back to your community and help victims of crimes get on the road to recovery.
- Term: Sept. 1, 2024 - Aug. 31, 2027
- Hours: Between six and 15 hours per month, depending on the number and complexity of applications received
- Application deadline: 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024
The Crime Victim Compensation (CVC) Board strives to help innocent victims of crime recover from the financial, physical, and emotional trauma resulting from victimization. This is achieved by evaluating applications for financial assistance and judiciously disbursing funds from the Crime Victim Compensation Fund.
Board members meet once a month to review applicant requests and make approval decisions and twice annually to review administrative, programmatic, and financial issues related to Crime Victim Compensation.
The CVC Board consists of three appointed volunteer members. The District Attorney’s office does not and cannot influence any decision made by the Board.
REQUIREMENTS AND TERMS OF OFFICE
- Board members must reside within the boundaries of the 21st Judicial District (Mesa County).
- Board members may not be employed by the District Attorney or the Judicial Department within the 21st Judicial District (Mesa County).
- Board members may not be an attorney actively practicing law in the criminal court of the 21st Judicial District (Mesa County).
- Appointments shall reflect the diversity of the 21st Judicial District concerning geographic, ethnic, and victim representation.
- All members serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for actual reasonable and necessary expenses directly related to Board activities.
- The selected Board member’s term will begin on Sept. 1, 2024, and shall be for three years. Upon completion of the first term, a member may be reappointed for an additional three-year term.
- If a Board member is absent from three consecutive meetings, the issue will be referred to the District Attorney, and a letter of resignation may be requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with victim issues.
- Ability to understand and operate in accordance with the state statute and the Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures of the 21st Judicial District CVC Board.
